Beyond Metrics: Building Products That Matter
Rawan
In digital products, higher numbers do not always mean greater success. User counts may increase while retention declines, and traffic may grow without achieving the product’s primary objective. That is why product teams need to understand the right metrics, not simply collect more data. DAU / MAU — Daily Active Users / Monthly Active Users: Helps teams understand usage frequency when active usage is clearly defined. CR — Conversion Rate: Measures the proportion of users who complete a target action, such as signing up or making a purchase. Churn Rate: Measures the proportion of customers or users who stop using a service over a defined period. These metrics become more useful when interpreted together, connected to actual user behavior, and used to guide experiments rather than assumptions. Successful products are not built around impressive dashboard numbers. They are built by understanding what those numbers mean and turning that understanding into better decisions.
